Sometimes you realize that people care and sometimes it's a punch in the gut to know they don't. "You cant expect everyone to like you" someone once told me. But it hurts or stings just a little bit to realize that someone doesn't.
Often in a social situation when too many people don't like you it starts to hurt, to ache, to pain, to the point where you cant keep it in. It hurts just a little bit to not be in everybody's good books or not have everybody like you.
Some people don't care what other people think. Correction, they let themselves believe it doesn't affect them. They have conditioned themselves differently. For most people it's what they call the so called act of 'giving no fucks whatsoever'.
But what does that mean. you don't care about what other people say or think? So wait you're selfish. So basically you are being encouraged to be selfish. Surely there is something wrong with this logic isn't it.
So wait you are encouraging people to ignore the other and just go along with their own life. you are basically encouraging people to listen to people who tell them exactly what they want to hear. You are telling people that it is okay to talk shit to people because at the end of the day everyone must learn that you must simply put ' Not Give A Fuck'.
This approach may work. But its affect is absolutely temporary. We as humans, as society live for social interaction. Its why social media is so prevalent today. People need to talk to people, know what their friends, acquaintances, even their sworn enemies are doing at all times, who they are talking to, what they are talking about. Even people who brand themselves as introverts are talking for hours to their friends on chat or on phone calls.
So deriving a way of life that is so polar to the way of life is well hypocritical and is also toxic. because you're asking people to be two different people. The person who gives a fuck and a person who absolutely doesnt or is under the impression that they don't. This is how people start to learn to deceive, to lie, to essentially pretend to be something they are not. Its the beginnings of something so toxic it could possibly rip the fabric of interaction between people and the emotions they feel towards each other.
Heart beating, blood rushing, for a minute there is silence. The room suddenly stops, though not noticeably so. It is all happening so so fast. For that brief moment, alone.
Light is entering to through the eyes but pitch darkness of the mind is all that can be seen. An explosion of thoughts suddenly engulf the brain, and in that fraction of a second not only does it filter, it makes the decision. And a split moment later words have exited the mouth.
That is impulse.
It is an intoxicating feeling of desire and energy. The kind that loosens control over your body and mind and surrenders full control to your subconscious.
The subconscious is the most powerful part of the brain. Both scientifically and philosophically.
In those split seconds a true understanding of the nature of existence is attained. A new one every time.
Angry, Sad, Melancholy, sometimes even Happy. Its an overload of emotions, sometimes even all at once.
But Imagine feeling this every moment of your life. Every other moment your subconscious takes over. You learn so much about yourself that after a point you don’t know what to believe, how to behave, when to say what, how to say what.
In that moment you truly forget who you are. When the moment passes, there is that brief moment when you realize that what has occurred in that moment and you only have a minute until the next wave comes.
I read recently in a book on philosophy, the truth is only something your contemporaries let you get away with saying.
The line struck a wire in my head. Creating a conversation in my head about the dynamics of the world and the nature of stuff we believe in.
Here is what I think.
Things like science can’t exactly be proven (And before you say WTF Raghav hear me out). Nothing can be proven to be honest. Something we choose to call a fact is something we believe as the truth. Your truth isn’t my truth, and neither of those truths is the truth.
Stuff we call science or math are sets of convention we choose to adopt or believe. Even language is a set of the convention. While this is a slightly radical idea, why do we speak a certain way? Why do we follow grammar and punctuation? Under social pressure or the structure or construct of society, we adopt certain beliefs or ideologies or create our own interpretation or version that we slowly adopt and make our version of the truth.
We are a hundred percent of the things we experience and 0% of the things we don’t experience. What do I mean by this? You are made of the things you see, the things you watch, read, the people you’re around, the sounds you hear, the things you study, touch or feel.
Your world is a chain reaction of infinite influences that constantly presents you with new ideas and ideologies that you can decide to adopt or pick characteristics or elements from.
So, coming back to my opening statement. The truth is something your contemporaries let you get away with saying. When two people’s truths match that is a consensus that becomes the truth between those two people. When this truth is widely adopted it takes the shape of banners like religion, mathematics, science, sociology, philosophy, the things that we believe to be the building blocks of society.
When a faction of society that has a radically different truth to ours breaks away we deem them outcasts or terrorists or extremists or cults or simply discriminate against them or simply single them out. I am not saying what a lot of them do is correct. It is definitely wrong according to my version of the truth but those are the ideals they believe to be their truth.
While the nature of this article will make almost anything I do hypocritical, I will say this, I do follow convention or whatever convention I find most convenient. However, after thinking over this, I am more understanding of other people’s conventions or Truths.
